Tolu Agoro is a 25 year old poet and spoken word artist who joined The Hip Hop Shakespeare Company after winning our first-ever ‘Hip-hop Shakepeare’ poetry competition held in association with the BBC. She has performed alongside Akala and a number of other rappers, singers, and poets at prestigious venues such as BBC Maida Vale Studios, the Southbank Centre and The Royal Festival Hall. She has also had the opportunity to tour around the UK and perform at several festivals, including Camp Bestival in 2010 where Ed Sheeran shared the stage with the THSC band. As one of The Hip Hop Shakespeare Company’s Peer Leaders she has co-facilitated a number of workshops in schools and colleges all over England, helping others understand and broaden their knowledge of Shakespeare as well as other Hip Hop artists.
“The Hip-hop Shakespeare workshops are so rewarding for me because the young people we work with infuse so much creativity, energy and wit into their work. As a young aspiring artist myself, I am always seeking for inspiration and innovations for the betterment of my work, and The Hip Hop Shakespeare Company has truly helped me to find ways to comprehend the works of outstanding artists and writers, thus, expanding my own creativity and imagination.”
